About the area

The most pristine beauty, where rituals, history and nature have remained intact without the contagion of modernity. Campobasso is the heart of Molise, the most remote and therefore most fascinating region of Italy. The perfect time to visit it is during the celebration of Corpus Domini, when the city mobilizes for the procession of the Mysteries: thirteen living theaters carried on the shoulders, with figures suspended in the air. A unique show, which makes us understand the population's attachment to religious tradition. The same atmosphere that can be felt during the Infiorata, with designs made up of petals along the streets, or on Good Friday, when a choir of seven hundred singers sings litanies in the streets of the centre. From the hill of Castello Monforte there is an extraordinary view, which allows you to admire the entire region up to the snow-capped Maiella massif in Abruzzo. After crossing the drawbridge, a stone staircase leads to the ancient village dotted with churches, including three Romanesque jewels - San Giorgio, San Bartolomeo and San Leonardo - while the neoclassical cathedral of the Holy Trinity is located immediately outside the walls. The De Capoa Park is wonderful, 16 thousand square meters of Italian garden with extraordinary plants and flowers around the eighteenth-century villa. The province ranges from the mountains to the sea. Termoli is surrounded by the fortress commissioned by Emperor Frederick II: inside the battlements there is a labyrinth of characteristic alleys, with squares with evocative monuments such as the Romanesque Cathedral. Ten kilometers of white sand beaches stretch around the town, with beaches and services for all water sports. Connections to the Tremiti Islands set sail from the port, an Apulian archipelago with spectacular water and breathtaking landscapes. The view enjoyed by Bojano, the capital of the Samnites who opposed the power of Rome, is very different: from the town there are paths that climb through woods, chapels and towers. On the slopes of the Matese mountains, Sepino instead presents the remains of a majestic Roman city, with the amphitheater and monumental gates intact. The cuisine has unique dishes, such as tagliolini with onion, ham and parsley; rice with cabbage; lamb roasts. Without forgetting the DOCs of the province: the Biferno - white, red or rosé - and the red Tintilia which are becoming popular for their original flavour, the same one found in this area yet to be discovered.
