About

About the area

Amid wineries and remarkable history, you can find a Sicilian treasure trove of monuments and unique dishes: Marsala is the sea, history, wine and many other wonders. You can see this as you enter the streets of the old town, where shops, wine cellars and restaurants offer local specialities, especially the sweet wine that has been appreciated for centuries. This can be understood by visiting the remains of the civilisations that have passed through here, from the Carthaginians to the Greeks, the Romans to the Byzantines, the Arabs to the Normans. Here Garibaldi landed with only a thousand volunteers, conquering the entire South of Italy and changing the political balance of power in Europe. In this part of western Sicily, the coastline has fine, white sandy beaches, with the proximity to Africa making it possible to get a tan almost all year round: Lido Signorino and San Teodoro are not to be missed. The wind will provide thrilling moments for kite surfers, but also the opportunity for a paragliding trip for beginners. In the direction of Trapani are the salt flats wrested from the sea, with their unique landscape of nature and birds. In the centre is the island of Mothia, the ancient Carthaginian capital that holds incredible artefacts in a unique location. Among them is the Auriga: one of the most beautiful classical statues in the world.
