Five days in the Cinque Terre, with accommodation in a 4-star hotel, in a double room with breakfast included.
This is a romantic journey to discover a dreamy stretch of coastline. The Cinque Terre is a place on the border between sky and sea, whose heart is made up of five picturesque coastal villages that give it its name: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.
Although they have become one of the world's tourist destinations, a compulsory stop on the new Grand Tours of the Peninsula, they still retain the charm of ancient Liguria, with terraces of dry-stone walls for cultivating grapes and olive trees, sloping down to cliffs and coves in the blue of the shoreline.
They are a paradise for trekking and panoramic walks, along routes with an extraordinary charm: from the 'Sentiero dell'Amore' (Path of Love), which connects Riomaggiore and Manarola along an itinerary overlooking the crystal-clear sea, to the 'Sentiero Azzurro' (Blue Path), a symbol of preservation of a unique territory.
The same fusion of land and mountains can be found in the local cuisine, where you can enjoy the scent of pesto – the basil-based sauce – but also the fish from the Gulf of La Spezia, such as mussels, anchovies and octopus with recipes that enhance the local white wines.
Day 1: In the village of the two seas
Travel at your leisure to Sestri Levante with accommodation in a 4-star hotel in a double room. Thanks to its central location, it is possible to visit the village's most famous sites on your own: the Baia del Silenzio and the Baia delle Favole, with the sea on both sides, the old town centre and the beaches, in particular Riva Trigoso, where fishermen set out every day for the open sea, repeating timeless traditions. Many sea-related activities can also be practised in Sestri Levante: sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, swimming, but also diving to discover the wrecks sunk during World War II. For those who want to use a car, a short distance away is Portofino, an icon of Italian elegance and style around the world. Stroll around in the ancient atmosphere, then head to the 'piazzetta', the meeting point of the international jet set and symbol of the seaside village. Delight yourself with an aperitif, enjoying every moment of beauty in this authentic corner of paradise.
Day 2: Like being in a painting
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Thanks to its convenient location, it is easy to reach Manarola with its small yellow houses overlooking the sea and a romantic atmosphere enveloping every corner.
Included experience: Wine tasting in the Cinque Terre amid nature and taste
Depending on your agreed time, meet with a sommelier: venture through the narrow streets and paths that flank rows of vines and olive groves and, at the end of the walk, treat yourself to a tasting of authentic wines and local products. In the second part of the day, visit on your own Monterosso al Mare, the largest village and the only one with a wide, easily accessible beach.
Stroll through the carruggi – the small streets in the centre – browsing in the speciality food shops, focaccerie, bars and restaurants.
Don't miss the Church of San Giovanni Battista and the Church of San Francesco, which offers a panorama of all the Cinque Terre.
Then continue on to Vernazza, the small village of great wonders.
Fall in love with the colourful old town and stroll through the unspoilt Mediterranean landscape, past prickly pears and cultivated terraces.
If you make a gourmet stop at a restaurant, try the 'Tian di Vernazza': baked potatoes and anchovies, flavoured with Mediterranean herbs and lemon zest.
Day 3: The tastes of the Cinque Terre
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and, thanks to its convenient location, travel at your leisure to La Spezia to meet your guide and head to Manarola by the Cinque Terre Train, for a day of tastes and typical flavours.
Included experience: Cooking class in the Cinque Terre with taste and tradition
Depending on your agreed time, take part in a cooking class with an experienced chef, in the setting of a panoramic terrace.
Put your hands into the dough and prepare Ligurian focaccia, enjoying it with a glass of wine.
Continue onto Monterosso and treat yourself to a tasting of local delicacies.
At the end of the experience, before returning to the hotel, you can browse the typical shops, discovering traditional products: Taggiasca olives, Ligurian pesto for basil-based pastas, extra virgin olive oil, anchovies and white wines.
A symphony of Mediterranean flavours blended with local traditions.
Day 4: Enveloped in absolute beauty
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and, thanks to its location, make your own way or take the Cinque Terre Train from Sestri Levante to Riomaggiore and Corniglia, the last stops in the Cinque Terre to be visited. Lose yourself among the colourful houses overlooking the sea, the narrow streets and a dreamlike atmosphere. The Via dell'Amore, one of the most romantic paths in the world, starts in Riomaggiore: according to legend, those who kiss along the path will love each other for life.
Included experience: Portovenere by e-bike amid nature and beauty
Depending on your agreed time, go to La Spezia, meet a private bike guide and venture on an e-bike tour to Portovenere.
Ride in relaxation among vineyards and centuries-old chestnut trees, then visit the tiny village that plunges into the Gulf of Poets and that for centuries gave inspiration to writers, poets and artists, such as Shelley and Byron.
Admire the Doria Castle, the Church of San Pietro perched above the water and Byron's Grotto, located between the Church and the Castle walls.
Before returning to Sestri Levante, enjoy a typical aperitif to delight your palate.
Day 5: Set off with beauty in your heart
After breakfast, set off on your own, taking with you the beauty and authenticity of unspoilt nature, on the border between sky and sea.
