Home to the longest portico and the oldest university in the western world, this mediaeval city is no stranger to records. There is no question about it: Bologna is best explored on foot. Start in Piazza Porta Ravegnana under the Two Towers, the symbols of the city, and venture into the maze of ancient alleys alongside an expert guide.
