Ferrara is a crossroads of traditions, art and contaminations between eras, to be discovered through its monuments and good cuisine. Walk through the city for a dip in time, visiting Palazzo Schifanoia together with a guide, the ancient summer residence of the Este family and home to the city museum since the end of the nineteenth century. Admire here, above all, the Salone dei Mesi, decorated due to the will of Borso d'Este by the best painters of the Ferrara school active around 1470, with quotes referring to the Neoplatonic and astrological culture of the time. Continue towards the Estense Castle, now a museum, with the ducal apartments, the prisons, the Torre del Leone, the Orange Garden and the ducal kitchens. Of the majestic Cathedral of San Giorgio, closed to restore the damage of the 2012 earthquake, you can appreciate the façade which blends Romanesque and Gothic. Palazzo Schifanoia is a treasure chest of delights, conceived for the leisure of the lordship, with a cycle of paintings that restores the purity of the fifteenth century. The Diamond Palace is another masterpiece that has influenced world architecture and today hosts high-level exhibitions. But the strongest emotions are found when exploring the streets of the centre, such as the Via delle Volte marked by medieval arches, or the splendor of Corso Ercole d'Este overlooked by the homes of the nobility. A cycle path winds along the entire city wall, between bastions and trees and connects to other equipped routes that allow you to reach all the places in the province up to the sea. It is a territory dotted with beauties. The town of Cento is a cradle of art: the homeland of Guercino, with a fortress that arouses admiration. The Pomposa Abbey is one of the first Benedictine centres, with Giotto-style frescoes and the intact atmosphere of monastic meditation. Following the banks of the Po you arrive at the Comacchio Riviera, with charming villages and large golden beaches which in summer are populated with bathers thanks to an offer of beaches that satisfy every need. The local cuisine is a riot of flavours, from salama da sugo served with polenta to clams and eels prepared in a thousand ways. The perfect province for a princely holiday.
