About

About the area

The Cinque Terre is a place on the border between sky and sea, whose heart is formed by five picturesque coastal villages that give it its name: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Although they have become one of the world's major tourist destinations, a mandatory stop on the new Grand Tours of the Peninsula, they still retain the charm of ancient Liguria: the landscape is that of mountains, punctuated by terraces of dry-stone walls for cultivating grapes and olive trees, which descend into cliffs and coves in the blue waters of the shoreline. This is a paradise for trekking and scenic walks along routes with an extraordinary charm: such as the 'Sentiero dell'Amore' (the Path of Love), which links Riomaggiore and Manarola in an itinerary overlooking the crystal-clear sea among houses painted with quotations and poems, or the 'Sentiero Azzurro' (Blue Path), a symbol of the conservation of a unique territory in the world. The same fusion of land and mountains can be found in the local cuisine, where the scent of pesto - the basil-based sauce - predominates, but also features fish from the Gulf of La Spezia, such as mussels, anchovies and octopus in recipes that showcase the local white wines. In short, a true sanctuary of harmony on the coast of Liguria.
