Olbia, North Sardinia Italy

Olbia is the gateway to Sardinia most loved by holidaymakers. You arrive here by planes and ferries, immediately coming into contact with the beauties of Gallura. It is a city with Greek and Roman roots, which continued into the Middle Ages as evidenced by the basilica of San Simplicio, believed to be the first Christian temple on the island. But it is a very lively centre, which on summer evenings lights up with clubs and restaurants: the local fishing boats guarantee fresh ingredients for a cuisine dominated by seafood dishes, with the unmissable mussels and the highly prized lobsters. The surroundings are a catalog of splendors, with a multitude of coves with turquoise water. The Gulf of Olbia overlooks the Tavolara marine reserve and continues north towards the Costa Smeralda, with some of the most prestigious tourist destinations in the Mediterranean such as Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo. Among the villas of the magnates and the international jet set, there are white sand beaches and coves carved into the red granite. If instead you head south from the city there are San Teodoro and Budoni, with a constellation of beaches such as Lido del Sole, Le Saline, Bunthe and Punta Corallina that promise sun and swimming. Those who love trekking and cycling can go along the tracks that lead into the inland nature, among the characteristic Nuragic towers and traditional villages that dominate an uncontaminated panorama.
